Heya!
I love coffee. I’m always ready for a coffee. My choice depends on the day and my mood. For example, I have a cappuccino on most mornings; if it’s already afternoon and I haven’t had a coffee that day i’ll probably have a latte. On cold, rainy afternoons, ideally, i’d want a Malindi Macchiato to spice things up but as i’m home most cold, rainy afternoons; I had to get creative and figure out how to make my own version of spiced coffee. It was a success! Cici and I infused star anise and cinnamon sticks into an espresso and topped it off with some homemade whipped cream. So divine and pretty easy to make. Just try it out!
INGREDIENTS
- Ground Coffee (Espresso)
- 5 pieces of Star Anise
- 2 Cinnamon Sticks
Serving: 3-4
METHOD
1. Break apart the star anise and cinnamon sticks. Place into a cheesecloth and tie up. (NB: We didn’t have any cheesecloth so we carefully took apart a tea bag, emptied out its contents and used it as a substitute.)
2. Place the cheesecloth into the coffee pot.
3. Place ground coffee into the coffeemaker. (The amount depends on your desired strength. We used about four heaped tablespoons.)
4. Brew Coffee.
5. Let it sit for around 4-5 minutes for the spices to infuse.
6. Serve and enjoy!
NB: You can top your coffee with whipped cream then garnish with ground cinnamon and star anise. This spiced coffee goes great with banana bread. Be on the lookout for a recipe soon!
