Musings, Tembea Kenya,

Of Karura hikes and filling in bios

“Tell me about yourself?”
Don’t you just dislike that question?
It’s December folks. That means the temptation to write up an end of year post (you know, those with the new year resolutions or what I’m thankful for in 2017) is very strong, but I’m going to fight it for now. (Don’t sigh of relief just yet, we’ve still got a couple of weeks left for one of those!) Instead, I’m going to address this question that apparently many of us have a bit of difficulty with. It makes you question whether you really know yourself. Especially when you’re asked on the spot. To be honest, even filling in bios on social media accounts is a struggle for me.

Then I got to thinking, is it as serious as I’m making it out to be?

I believe the answer is found in the simple things one does in their life. For example, in my case, what I found myself doing over the only day of holiday I got in between my semesters. Going for a mini hike in Karura Forest with my cousin (I desperately needed a breath of fresh air after a practically never-ending exam period) and thereafter cooking myself and a buddy some yummy fish fingers.
It’s pretty clear where my interests lie: outdoor adventures, cooking and of course eating -haha! ?
It’s as simple as asking yourself what your favourite colour is, what your favourite book is or examining what you do with your free days.

From that you’ve got a bit of an idea of who you are. For instance, I’m Ivy Mabelle, a Kenyan girl who really loves pink but unsuccessfully tries to hide it by saying I love magenta. My favourite book at the moment is The End of the Affair by Graham Greene. It’s a bit of a sad love story which ultimately shows how love and God are synonymous. You can tell I’m a believer of Love. I enjoy spending my time on adventurous pursuits but not as much as trying out new dishes. And I could go on and on…

So the next time you get faced with such a question, don’t panic. You’ve already got the answers! Try it out and let me know who you are. ?
