#cookingwithCICI,

Classic Lasagna

Heya guys!

Today on the blog we have the recipe you’ve all been waiting for: LASAGNA. ? We’ve been thinking of making lasagna in one of our #cookingwithCICI sessions for the longest time, but we thought we might as well perfect the recipe as best we could first, so here it is! It’s a pretty simple and full-proof recipe…just in time for your christmas dinners.???Try it out and let us know how it went!

Prep time: 1 hour

Cook time: 35 minutes

Serves: 8

Ingredients:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • ¾ kg ground beef
  • 8 pork sausages (spicy or non-spicy)
  • 300g mozzarella cheese
  • 400g cheddar cheese
  • 200g Parmesan cheese
  • 1 medium-sized can (about 250g) of tomato paste
  • 6 pieces of lasagna pasta
  • 1 large onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp white pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Tabasco sauce (optional)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ¾ cup water

Method

1. Preheat oven to 200oc

2. Chop onions, crush the garlic and grate the cheeses.

4. In a large saucepan, add the oil and fry the onions till they are soft and looking almost translucent, then add the garlic and stir for a minute because garlic burns easily.

5. Add the ground beef and sausage mixture into the saucepan and cook until completely browned.

6. Add the oregano, the ground peppers, salt and stir. Then add the tomato paste, then pour in the water and stir again. Add Tabasco if you’d prefer your lasagna to be a little hot. Cover and cook for 15 minutes.

7. Cook the lasagna pasta according to package instructions, adding a teaspoon of oil to prevent them from sticking together. Once ready, rinse and set aside each pasta piece separately. (We made the mistake of letting them cool while stacked on top of each other, so some of them got stuck. Be careful here. ? )

8. In a large baking dish or casserole dish, arrange the cooked meat, pasta and cheese in the following order:

  • 1st layer of meat at the bottom.
  • Pasta to cover the meat( roughly 3 pieces; ensure the pasta covers all parts of the meat)
  • 1/2 of the grated cheddar
  • 1/3rd of the grated mozzarella
  • 2nd layer of meat mixture
  • 2nd layer of pasta
  • Remaining 1/2 of cheddar
  • 1/3rd of mozzarella
  • 3rd layer of meat
  • 1/3rd of mozzarella
  • Sprinkle Parmesan cheese at the top.

8. Place the dish in the second rack of the oven and let it cook for 35 minutes. Check on it after 30 minutes to make sure the cheese does not burn.

9. Once ready let it rest for 10 minutes. Serve and enjoy.
