Fashion,

The Maroon Hat

Heya!

Kenyanbelle.com is finally up and running. Words CANNOT describe how excited I am for this. And with all this excitement, comes the dreaded pressure of trying to make the first post perfect –after all, you never get a second chance to make a great first impression. So, in the spirit of wowing you all (and getting rid of first post jitters), I’ve decided to start us off with a fashion post on what is probably my most favourite item in my closet. The Maroon Hat. I had been looking for the perfect Pinterest/tumblresque hat for ages. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I suddenly saw it in town, bang in the middle of ‘Archives’. I knew I was going home with it no matter what –and I think the street vendor knew that too. He quoted KSh 600 for it and didn’t budge despite my friend, Cici, and I using all the bargaining tactics we knew. Including infamous lines like, “Eh Boss, we hadn’t even planned to shop today…” or the even more infamous move of walking away and saying you’ll find the same item somewhere else for a cheaper price, in hopes that the guy will quickly follow you, having reduced the quoted price by half. But sadly, we came back 2 hours later, after having lunch, and the street vendor still refused to lower the price; leaving me no choice but to oblige. Oh well…no regrets at all. It’s the perfect item to add a little oomph to your outfit!
